Collier, Stewart make quarterfinals run at regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas – Red Raiders Reed Collier and Tyler Stewart made a quarterfinals run in doubles, highlighted by a top-10 victory, at the ITA Texas Regional tournament.
The Collier/Stewart duo won their first-round match against Lamar's Max Amling and Leon Nickel by a commanding, 8-3 score. Then, they posted their first ranked of the season with a dominant, 8-4 win over two-seeded and No. 9-ranked Pierre-Yves Bailly and Siem Woldeab of Texas to advance to the quarterfinals.
Another Red Raider pairing moved on in doubles as Sebastian Abboud and Lorenzo Esquici defeated Diego Hatem Arias and Eduardo Nunez Del Prado of Prairie View A&M, 8-6, to get to the Round of 32.
In singles, Abboud qualified for the main draw after recording two victories in the qualifying draw. First, he beat Jorge Menendez Gonzalez of Prairie View A&M in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3, before earning a main draw bid with a win against Mihaly Deli of ACU, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Four Red Raiders also advanced to the second round of the tournament in singles after tallying a win in the Round of 64. Esquici collected his first ranked win after downing nine-seeded and No. 117-ranked Liam Krall of SMU, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Collier then added a win over Jackson Ross (UTSA), 6-3, 6-4.
Piotr Pawlak kept things going after he overtook Prairie View A&M's Diego Hatem Arias by a 6-0, 6-3 score, then Stewart became the fourth Red Raider to advance after his win against Baylor's Christopher Frantzen, 7-5, 7-6 (3).
Up next, the Red Raiders head to Arkansas for the Fayetteville 15k on Oct. 30-Nov. 5.
