Dimitrios Azoidis secured Texas Tech’s only point with a three-set victory Thursday night
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 21 Texas Tech men's tennis team had their nine-match winning streak snapped Thursday evening as No. 20 Oklahoma topped the Red Raiders, 6-1, in their Big 12 Conference opener at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
Â
The Red Raiders (11-3; 0-1) came up short on numerous matches across the board as Oklahoma won a tiebreaker in the top singles spot to defeat Parker Wynn and Franco Ribero, 7-6, to secure the doubles point. Four of the six singles matches later went to three sets as well.
Â
Singles play was highlighted by junior Dimitrios Azoidis, who secured the Red Raiders' only point on the night with a three-set decision (6-3, 5-7, 6-3). Tech was topped in a third-set tiebreaker in each of its final three courts in play, helping the Sooners even the season series between the two schools.
Â
Tech previously topped Oklahoma, 4-1, only a few weeks ago as part of a neutral-site contest in Dallas. The Red Raiders won an additional three more matches following the initial victory over the Sooners as part of their season-long nine match winning streak.
Â
Up Next: The Red Raiders continue Big 12 play Saturday when they travel to take on Oklahoma State (7-7). First serve is slated for 1 p.m. in Stillwater.
