
No. 10 Tech Baseball Continues Big 12 Play at K-State

Red Raiders head to Manhattan, Kan., for three-game set starting Friday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 10 Texas Tech baseball team continues Big 12 play this weekend as it travels to Manhattan, Kan., for a three-game series at Kansas State.

The set begins with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday before a 4 p.m. Saturday start and a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday. All three games will be available through ESPN3 and can be heard on the Texas Tech Sports Network.

The Red Raiders (16-6. 1-2) and Wildcats (11-14, 0-3) will both be playing their second Big 12 conference series of the season. Tech took a game in Austin two weeks ago while K-State was swept at Oklahoma State last weekend.

Friday's game between Texas Tech and K-State 68th all-time meeting all-time between the two programs. Tech holds a 39-27-1 advantage in the all-time series despite trailing 15-17 in games played in Manhattan.

The Red Raiders have won five in a row over K-State, 11 of the last 12, and 14 of the last 16. Tech swept the Wildcats in Lubbock last season, outscoring the Wildcats 56-16.Â

This will be Tech's fourth trip to Manhattan under head coach Tim Tadlock, who is 14-6 against the Wildcats overall. Tech has won five straight series against the Wildcats, including two straight in Manhattan.

Tech is coming off a 4-1 week in which they played five games in five days. Tech swept No. 23 Michigan Thursday-Saturday and then split a two-game series with 2018 Super Regional team Stetson Sunday and Monday.

K-State enters on a four-game skid and losers of six of their last seven. The Wildcats struggled to contain Oklahoma State's lineup last weekend as they dropped all three games in Stillwater, Okla., by a combined score of 24-12.

Tadlock will hand the ball over to freshman right-hander Micah Dallas on Friday against the Wildcats, followed by junior right-hander Caleb Kilian on Saturday. Dallas was impressive in his first career start last weekend against No. 23 Michigan, and Kilian has given up just one earned run over 13.0 innings in his last two starts. The Red Raiders will have two left-handers they can go with on Sunday in redshirt junior Erikson Lanning and freshman Mason Montgomery.

K-State will counter with a pair of freshmen on Friday and Saturday. Right-hander Griffin Hassall will get the rock on Friday while left-hander Jordan Wicks will get it on Saturday. Hassall (0-0) enters with a 2.03 ERA, and Wicks (3-0) has an impressive 1.83 Era with 39 strikeouts to eight walks.

Texas Tech rose in the rankings this week back into the top 10 in the NCBWA Top 25. After beginning the season as high as No. 3 in the preseason rankings, Tech has been in the top 10 by at least one poll for 6-of-7 weeks this season.
