The Red Raiders will begin the season with a home match at the Lubbock Country Club on Saturday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team begins its home schedule versus Wichita State on Saturday at the Lubbock Country Club.
First serve is slated for 7 p.m. CT, and admission is free to all home tennis matches. Live stats for Saturday's match are available at www.TexasTech.StatBroadcast.com.
The Red Raiders (1-1), who are receiving votes in this week's ITA Top 25, split their matches on opening weekend with a sweep of New Mexico before falling to UCF in Orlando. Saturday's match was added to the schedule after Texas Tech's meeting with Arizona was rained out.
"It's great to be back home this week after having a good first weekend on the road," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "Besides the loss to UCF, I think it was real positive week for our guys. They trained really hard, and we got some good bonding time in to go over some goals and expectations for the season. This week, the guys have just worked on some of the things that cost us the match against UCF. They've done a great job. Hopefully, we can go out there tomorrow night and play well. Right now, it's just about making positive steps so we can get to be playing the right tennis."
Alex Sendegeya was the lone Red Raider to win both of his singles decisions whereas Ronit Bisht and Pyry Hyrkkonen took home a pair of doubles victories.
Jolan Callieau, Connor Curry and Bisht remained in the ITA singles rankings at No. 25, No. 104 and No. 120, respectively. In doubles, the Red Raiders have double teams among the ITA's Top 60 in Bisht and Curry at No. 55 followed by Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson at No. 60.
