The Red Raiders will have four players compete at two events over the weekend.
LAFAYETTE, La./ATHENS, Ga. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team will continue its fall season with a pair of events hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Georgia this weekend.
Connor Curry, Carlos DiLaura, Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson will take the court starting Thursday at the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic in Louisiana followed by Ronit Bisht, Jolan Cailleau, Jackson Cobb and Nikolas Moceanu at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Georgia on Friday.
This weekend's events mark the fall debut for Cailleau, Curry, Sendegeya and Thomson. The quartet amassed 78 of the team's 112 singles wins during dual matches last season. Sendegeya and Cailleau, a pair of 2016 All-Big 12 Second-Team picks, are ranked No. 83 and No. 95 inside the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis preseason singles rankings. In doubles, Sendegeya and Thomson check in at the No. 29 position.
Bisht, Cobb and Moceanu made their Red Raider debuts at the Midland Invitational last week. The trio combined for a 7-5 singles record whereas Bisht and DiLaura advanced to the semifinal round of the doubles draw.
"Both tournaments will bring a solid competition level for our team, and everyone is going to be tested," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "For the guys who played last week, I want to see how they improve and make adjustments. We challenged them in practice to take ownership of their games in certain situations. It's time to compete and see what we have for the guys who didn't play last week. They've been training hard for almost a month. Jolan had a great summer, and this weekend is an opportunity to build his confidence against a strong field."
