Red Raiders Wrap Up Weekend At Olympia Fields

Henry Todd led the Texas Tech men's golf team with a top-25 finish at Olympia Fields this weekend.

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -The Texas Tech men's golf team earned a 15th-place finish at the Fighting Illini Invite, at Olympia Fields Country Club, this weekend.The young Red Raiders, starting a lineup consisting of three newcomers, shot a 46-over-par 886 for the weekend, good enough for 15th place in an absolutely loaded field, where Tech was one of 12 teams that was either ranked or received votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll.
Tech started strong with a nine-over-par 289 for the first round, which had to be completed on Saturday morning due to weather. Tech also finished well with an 11-over par 291 on Sunday, but sandwiched those rounds around a score of 26-over-par (306) on Saturday, at a course that has hosted several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments..
Senior Henry Todd led the way for Tech, carding a seven-over-par 217, which was good enough to tie for 22nd as an individual. He shot an even-par 70 to open the tournament, and followed with a 73 on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday.
Hannes Ronneblad registered his second consecutive top-35 finish, tying for 31st with a nine-over-par 219 (71-76-72), and freshman Ivan Ramirez took 62nd place, firing a 16-over-par 226 (74-79-73).
Rounding out the scoring for Texas Tech was freshman Hayden Springer, who shot 78-78-80 for a final score of 236. Hurly Long played on Friday and Sunday for the Red Raiders, shooting a 74 and a 72, respectively, in those rounds.
Texas Tech returns to action this weekend, Sept. 25-26, at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, in Albuquerque, N.M.
