LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore infielder Devon Thomey was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Wednesday after helping lead the Red Raiders to their first ever regular-season series win over Texas last weekend.
Thomey hit a team-leading .500 (4-for-8) against the Longhorns with a pair of home runs and five RBI as Tech won its third-consecutive Big 12 series. It is just the second time since 1998 where the Red Raiders have won three-straight conference series.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Thomey becomes the 10th Red Raider in school history to garner Big 12 Player of the Week honors and the first since Sydni Emanuel received the award on March 18 last year.
Congratulations to @TechAthletics Thomey and @OU_Softball Parker who earned #Big12SB weekly honors! http://t.co/930yjFk6p5

Thomey was a regular on the base paths throughout the weekend as she recorded a .636 on-base percentage after drawing two walks while also being plunked by a pitch. She reached base in 7-of-11 total plate appearances.
Her impact was best felt in run production, though, as Thomey drove in at least one run in all three games, including the game-winner Sunday in a 7-3 victory to clinch the series. She recorded two RBI on both Friday and Sunday, giving her a team-leading 13 multiple-RBI performances this year.
Thomey led off an inning with a solo home run in each of the first two games of the series, giving her seven long balls already this season. She finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Friday evening, marking her ninth multiple-hit game this year.
Thomey, who is second on the team with a .356 average this season, currently ranks among the Big 12 leaders in doubles (10), triples (3), total bases (85) and slugging percentage (.644).
The Red Raiders return to the road this weekend, traveling to Ames, Iowa, to close out the regular season with a three-game series at Iowa State. The series begins with a 4 p.m. first pitch on Friday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
