Cara Custer was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after going 2-0 with a 1.66 ERA last weekend in Texas Tech's three-game sweep of Oklahoma State.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior right-handed pitcher Cara Custer was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after picking up a pair of victories this past weekend in a series sweep at Oklahoma State.
This is the first time in Custer's career where she has garnered a Big 12 weekly award. She is the fifth Red Raider all-time to receive Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors and the first since Gretchen Aucoin on April 29 last year.
Custer went 2-0 with a 1.66 earned-run average against the Cowgirls, leading the Red Raiders to their third three-game sweep of a Big 12 opponent in school history and their first series win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater since 2007.
Custer tossed six strong innings in her first appearance Sunday, allowing just a run off six hits and a pair of strikeouts in a 9-1 run-rule victory. It was Custer's team-leading 12th complete game of the season and the 39th of her career, moving her into sole possession for fourth place in the Tech career record book.
The Tacoma, Washington native followed up by throwing another 6.2 innings Monday in relief as the Red Raiders overcame an early deficit for an 8-4 victory. Custer closed the outing by retiring 13 of the final 14 Cowgirls she faced.
Custer, who ranks second all-time at Tech with 63 career wins, surrendered just nine hits over 12.2 innings while holding Oklahoma State to just a .191 batting average in her two appearances.
Custer enters this weekend's series with Texas as the Big 12 leader in innings pitched (175.1), appearances (38) and games started (26). She also ranks among the league leaders in wins (12), strikeouts (101) and complete games (12).
The Red Raiders open their three-game series against Texas with a 6 p.m. first pitch Friday evening at Rocky Johnson Field. Tech will also host the Longhorns at 2 p.m. Saturday on FOX Sports Net before closing the series with a 12 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
