No. 13 Texas Tech Sweeps Midweek Series Over NM State

LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 13 Texas Tech scored four runs in the sixth inning while completing a midweek series sweep over New Mexico State with a 7-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,074 fans at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red Raiders (12-4) improved to 12-1 at home while recording 14 hits without making an error in the second game of the midweek series with the Aggies (1-14).
New Mexico State scored a run in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. The Red Raiders answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, sparked by a two-run double by first baseman Eric Gutierrez. Cory Raley and Quinn Carpenter also had RBI in the inning. In addition, Tech sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth and recorded five hits and a walk.
Junior right-handed pitcher Dalton Brown (1-0) earned his first win of the season pitching one inning allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.
Aggies reliever Quentin Mansfield (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season allowing three runs in the sixth inning on two hits with a walk.
Tech senior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor picked up his second save of the season pitching the final 0.2 innings of the game without allowing a hit or a run.
Freshman third baseman Michael Davis went 2-for-4 with a double and led all players with three RBI. Junior designated hitter Cory Raley went 2-for-4, junior first baseman Eric Gutierrez went 2-for-5 with two RBI, junior right fielder Quinn Carpenter went 2-for-4 and senior second baseman Bryant Burleson went 2-for-4 with a team-leading two runs.
Davis plated the Red Raiders first three runs with a two-run single in the second and with a run-scoring fielder's choice in the fourth.
Tech right-handed pitcher Johnathon Tripp took a no decision in his first start of the season going four innings allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
New Mexico State starting left-handed pitcher Robert Kraft took a no decision going 3.2 innings allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
NOTES:
