Texas Tech junior infielder Cory Raley has been on a roll as of late, and his hot-streak continued against NMSU, as he extended his current hit streak to seven games dating back to Tech's final game against NIU in Lubbock in the four game series. Raley is leading the Red Raiders with a .440 batting average.
The Red Raiders were able to put up seven runs against the Aggies on Wednesday afternoon, their most in 11 games. Tech last scored seven or more runs when they scored eight against Northern Illinois in game one of the four game series where they swept the Huskies. That eight-run outing also marked a stretch where Tech scored at least eight runs in 5-of-6 games to start the season.
Senior right hand pitcher Corey Taylor continued his early season success, as he has posted a 0.00 ERA through seven appearances and 15.2 innings. He came into the game in the ninth inning to close things out against NMSU on Wednesday, finishing with a line of 0.2 innings with no hits or walks allowed and only nine pitches, six of which were strikes and earning his second save of the year.
First baseman Eric Gutierrez was able to pick up his eighth double of the season against New Mexico State on Wednesday afternoon, giving Tech the 6-4 lead with 2 RBI in the sixth inning. It's also worth noting that the junior has doubled his pace for doubles compared to 2014, where he only had four through the same period of the first 16 games.
