CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- After taking a one-shot lead into the final round of the Dixie Amateur, Texas Tech golfer Hannes Ronneblad told the South Florida Sun Sentinel "I can go really low."That's exactly what he did on Tuesday.
Ronneblad shot a final-round 67 to win the Dixie Amateur title, at the Heron Bay Golf club, in Coral Springs, Fla. He shot a 35 (-1) on the front nine, but caught fire on the back nine, stringing together three birdies in the first four holes--half of his six birdies on the day-on his way to a four-under-par 32 on the back nine. He only carded one bogey in Tuesday's final round.
Ronneblad's 67, which was the low round of the day, polished off a four-day score of 280 (71, 69, 73, 67), eight-under-par. Ronneblad entered Tuesday's final round with just a one-shot lead, but after saving his best for last, he finished with a comfortable three-stroke win.
"I'm very happy for Hannes," Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "He continues to grow as a player, and he is hands-down one of the hardest-working guys in college golf. You would be hard-pressed to find another collegiate golfer who spends more time and energy on his craft."
