Japreece Dean Named Big 12 Freshman Of The Week

Japreece Dean was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week after averaging 17 points and 5.5 assists per game last week.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Lady Raider freshman guard Japreece Dean has been named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week, in a vote of a media panel that covers the conference.Dean is the first Lady Raider to win this award since Dayo Olabode did so on Jan. 5, 2015. This is Dean's first Big 12 award.
Last week, in what were her first two collegiate starts, Dean averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in Texas Tech's 78-62 win over Idaho and 75-70 loss at Santa Clara.
Dean scored a career-high 23 points versus Idaho, including 11 in the fourth quarter when she hit three of her four three-point field goal attempts. The rookie guard entered the game having not made a three-pointer this season. Dean also grabbed a career-high six rebounds.
The rookie guard dished out a career-best seven assists at Santa Clara to go along with 11 points, including two more treys. After her offensive production last week, Dean is now one of five Lady Raiders averaging double-figure scoring.
This is the second Big 12 weekly award for the Lady Raiders this season. Leashja Grant was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 16.
Dean and the Lady Raiders will be in action tonight, vs. Incarnate Word. Tipoff at United Supermarkets Arena is set for 6:30 p.m.
