The Red Raiders, after falling to No. 21 the first week of the season, have climbed in the rankings in all but two weeks during the regular season. Beckie recorded two big goals last weekend, including the game-tying score in the 90th minute versus Baylor. Trailing 1-0 and competing down one player, Tech needed a goal to force overtime. The senior forward converted a penalty kick with just 44 seconds remaining to force overtime. Beckie also had a score in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Texas. She has 52 goals in her career and tied for the Big 12 lead in points this season.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
After dropping a heartbreaker to USC on Sep. 21 the 17th-ranked Red Raiders did not lose a match in their next 12 appearances. The 12 match unbeaten streak covered exactly 50 days and saw the Red Raiders earn a 8-0-4 record during the streak.
FORMER RED RIADER JAELEN HINKLE MAKES US WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM DEBUT
Former red Raider Jaelene Hinkle made her US Women's National Team debut Wednesday night in a hard fought 1-1 draw with Brazil in Seattle. Hinkle made her presence known early, stepping out and intercepting a pass near midfield, and eventually being involved in a sequence of passes that led to the equalizing goal by Carli Lloyd in the 85th minute of the match. Hinkle became the first Texas Tech player to cap for the US National Team, joining Janine Beckie who capped for the Canadian team this past summer. During her time as a Red Raider, Hinkle became the second All-American in school history while also being named to the NSCAA All-Central Region first team. She was also the first Red Raider in school history to earn All-Region honors three times in a career.
