LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 29 Texas Tech swept doubles and then picked up three quick singles wins to blank Wyoming, 4-0, at the Lubbock Country Club in the home opener for the Lady Raiders on Friday.
Sabrina Federici and Lynn Kiro toppled Christa Gecheva and Alma Espinosa, 6-2, to start the day in doubles. Gabriela Talaba and Hortense Boscher followed suit with a 6-4 win over Dorottya Jonas and Silviya Zhelyaskova, 6-4 at No. 3. Kenna Kilgo and Sarah Dvorak closed out the sweep in doubles with a 6-5 win over Magdalena Stencel and Jessica Parizher, 6-5.
Texas Tech's Federici gave the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory over Parizher at No. 4. For Federici, it was her eighth straight win as the freshman improved to 13-2 on the season.
Dvorak, who is ranked No. 89 nationally, then took No. 2 singles over Jonas, 6-3, 6-1 and Tech lead 3-0. No. 35 Lynn Kiro closed out the match, with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stencel for the 4-0 win.
Texas Tech (2-1) returns to action at the Lubbock Country Club at 1 p.m. on Saturday, as the Lady Raiders host No. 28 Auburn (3-1).
