TEXAS TECH vs WEST VIRGINIA POSTGAME QUOTES
TEXAS TECH 73, WEST VIRGINIA 57
JANUARY 28, 2015
UNITED SUPERMARKETS ARENA - LUBBOCK, TEXAS
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
Opening Statement
"Big win for us. We needed this. We needed to be ready to go and this group was. They were a lot of fun to watch and coach tonight. I thought our entire team played well and did what they needed to do. I thought Amber Battle was special. It was fun to watch her be in a zone, play under control and have an offensive attack. I thought Kels did a great job of finding people. Jamie Roe just absolutely battled on the glass and came up with huge boards for us."
On what Amber was doing that set her apart from everyone else
"You know like I said in my opening statement. She was in such a good rhythm on her catches and her reads. Sometimes Amber will catch and go before she sees. Tonight I just thought she was in such good rhythm, her shot was falling, and she just continued to be in that mode. I don't think she ever took a bad shot; I didn't think any of them were forced. I thought she made excellent reads and she made great passes. She had a lot of penetrating kicks we didn't knock them down but she was reading the defense, and being a great offensive player."
On if this was their best game this year
"I think so. I know I'll go back and look at the film. It's never as good or bad as it feels. There's just a look in their face. I also think we are going to go as Amber goes some and she just had that determination about her. She put her team on her back at times and made big plays."
Kelsi Baker
Senior Forward
On if it was fun watching Amber tonight
"Yeah it was a lot of fun. That's not something you get to see every day. So when you're on the court with her it's fun."
On what this win means for her
"It's a big conference win. You know every conference win is huge. We want to focus on the game at hand and this game was a game of hand. It's no bigger than any other game. It's the biggest game right now."
Amber Battle
Senior Guard
On at what point did you realize you had it tonight
"I don't know. I just kept shooting the ball and it kept going in so I just kept shooting."
On if they were doing anything different from in Morgantown
"Not really. I think it was more my teammates opening the floor for me. I was just attacking and being aggressive."
Jamie Roe
Junior Forward
On looking for Amber
"Every time I got the ball I was looking for Amber. Except for the last one I was like oh okay, sure I'll take it."
Mike Carey
West Virginia Head Coach
On what made Amber Battle so hard to stop
"Well she was hitting her jumper earlier. She's tough; she's one of the best players in the conference. I thought so last year too. We didn't have anyone that wanted any part of her. It's amazing that we let a freshmen guard her there in the last five minutes. Instead of one of our veterans step up, take pride in it and stomp it. Last year Jess Harley would of knocked someone upside the head to take her. This year we don't have anyone that wants to do that."
On what they weren't doing in the second half
"Well we just let me dribble, penetrate it, we'd help and they kicked and hit threes. That's where they were scoring most of it. We're not a very good team right now. Give them credit though."
