TEXAS TECH vs. TEXAS POSTGAME QUOTES
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 21, 2015
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
Opening Statement
"Tough loss for us. I though we played with a lot more tempo in the first half offensively. We got into some foul trouble in the second half that really impacted us. We weren't able to string together stops and obviously scores in the second to hang on to the lead. Lost a close one. Got to give Kansas credit for making plays in the second half."
On if she saw a difference in tempo during the second half
"Not necessarily. I just didn't think we were pushing quiet as hard, pushing the ball, and running as much. I think we ran out of gas quickly. We proudly need to play more people and try to be a little deeper. I thought foul trouble really got us out of our rhythm offensively. Obviously it affected us on the defensive end. We were very small at times, didn't rebound it well out of the zone. Offensively we had to go with line-ups that we have never gone up with because of foul trouble and just inefficiency at times with some people. So I just thought we kind of got stagnate and weren't able to run the stuff we typical do."
On if it's worse to get blown out of have a last second loss
"Well no question you sleep less after a close game. You also want your team fighting in every game and having a chance to win. So it's too fold."
Kelsi Baker
Senior Forward
On her taking seven charges and what made it work tonight
"I think we were as a team trying to understand the schemes, the things they were trying to run, and rotate. It was just help side defense."
On how feels it lose a game like this when you were up by 17
"Losing a game like this. I think that's the toughest part."
Amber Battle
Senior Guard
On if there was a moment she thought they were stealing it back from you
"No. I just don't think we had as much energy as we had in the first half. "
On what was working on offensive the first half
"We were just really executing, getting to three sides of the floor, and hitting open shots." On if she saw a difference in their defense second half "Not really. It was just a change in our execution and how hard we went."
Bonnie Henrickson
Kansas Head Coach
Opening Statement
"Another great night in the Big12. I've been in the league long enough to know that it's like that. Couldn't be more proud of our kids and couldn't give them enough credit for who they were, how aggressive they were, how confident they played, and how well they played in the first half. Couldn't have been more disappointed on how we were on the flip side during the first half. Couldn't be more proud of us finding some resolve, resiliency, being more aggressive, playing with more discipline, and keeping them off of the three. They were 7 for 10 on three's in the first half. Three's, layups and any tough two you shot, you felt good about.
"I mean who wouldn't because I've been shooting three's and layups. I'm making those so. Everything felt a little more uncomfortable, I think because our defensive effort was better and certainly better in the second half. Candi has done a great job with the program because of how much better they are when you watch from last year to this year and through the season. She's got to be proud of that and I know that's going to be tough for any of us on either side of it. I get that. As much as anything I'm just proud of our kids because it's been a long time. We've won one since December 22 but who's counting. So to get on the right end of one feels a lot better."
