Red Raiders Dominate In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 41 Texas Tech avenged its season-opening loss on Friday with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Arizona Kickoff Weekend held at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
"I thought we rebounded well from Friday," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "We did some good things and I thought we competed well."
One day after falling to No. 61 New Mexico, Texas Tech got its rematch and rolled the Lobos, 5-0. The Red Raiders followed it up with a 4-2 win over host Arizona.
In the morning match, Texas Tech seemed unstoppable, as the Red Raiders avenged Friday's match with a 5-0 drubbing of UNM. Texas Tech cruised to five straight-set victories, led by Felipe Soares at No. 1.
In the afternoon, Alex Sendegeya clinched a tight 3-2 Red Raider lead with a three-set 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 win over Arizona's Trevor James.
The match started with Texas Tech newcomer Victor Cornea cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3, followed by Jolan Cailleau at No. 5. Hugo Dojas then claimed No. 2 to give Texas Tech a quick 3-0 lead.
Arizona then topped Soares at No. 1 and Red Raider freshman Conner Curry at No. 6, giving Texas Tech a slim 3-2 lead before mid-season enrollee Sendegeya came through for the Red and Black.
Texas Tech has Sunday off, but returns to action in the final round of the Arizona Kickoff Invitational on Monday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Red Raiders will face UC Irvine in the morning and Arizona in the afternoon.
