TEXAS TECH vs WEST VIRGINIA POSTGAME QUOTES
JANUARY 14, 2015
WVU COLISEUM - MORGANTOWN, W. VA.
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
Opening Statement
"It's great to get this win. It's exciting for our team. Any Big 12 win is important and is a big win - whether its at home or on the road. It's obviously difficult to go on the road so I'm proud that we were so set on go. Our players, you could just tell with the energy they played with and the look on their face that they were going to win this game and were determined to win it."
On what changed after WVU took a 15-6 lead that helped Tech get back in game
"I thought we did a good job of being patient, executing our offense and taking opportunities when we had them to get to the rim. I thought early on we were shooting a lot of contested jumpshots and were settling for some things and not being patient on second and third sides of the floor and waiting on a better shot and a better opening to get to the rim."
Amber Battle
Senior Guard
On getting a road win in Big 12
"Yeah it's huge for us to get a road win. It will really help our resume later on in Big 12 play so for us to come out like that, with that amount of energy, it really helped us."
On what Tech had to do to stop West Virginia
"Definitely stopping their transition offense, rebounding the ball and then taking care of the ball at our end. Those were really big keys for us."
Minta Spears
Sophomore Guard
On getting a road win in Big 12
"Yeah, this win is huge for us. We knew coming into the game, like Amber said, to stop their transition offense and limit our turnovers were two huge keys. We felt like if we did that then we had the possibility of winning the game. I felt like we executed that."
On coming back after being down by nine early
"We talked about that. We have not been starting games great the last two games and it was just nine points and there was a ton of basketball left to play. So I don't think we ever viewed it as nine points, it was just 15-6 with a ton of time left."
