POSTGAME QUOTES

UNITED SUPERMARKETS ARENA - LUBBOCK, TEXAS
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
On how difficult it is to be successful when Minta isn't on her game
"I don't know if it's all on Minta. All of us have to shoot the ball and make shots. Particularly in this league your not going to get by, by just being great defensively. People are too good; you have to make open shots. Unless you do that you won't win Big12 games. You have to make open shots."
On their shot selection tonight
"I didn't particularly like the runners at the rime. I think when you have a fast break you have to convert, be under control and take a quality shot. I had not problem with the threes we took. I thought they were wide open but we've got to knock those down. Besides some rushed runners, poor decisions, and playing fast those were probably the only shots I didn't like."
On free throw percentages
"I think a lot of that too, is shooting it. Amber found a way to get to the line. I thought she was very very good in her decisions on when to pass it and when to take it. She found a lot of crevasses to get in and get fouled. Then she converted. She's taken 10 of our 28 free throws so she did a great job getting there and Kels as well."
Kelsi Baker
Senior Forward
On starting off better
"You know that's our lead. You play and you learn. It's taken us two games to learn it. I think from this point forward we will make the adjustment and get after and set the tone in the first half."
On if she saw the newer players make the adjustment
"Oh yeah. Ionna McKenzie played an amazing game and as a freshman these are the games we need her to step up. She did big time, and I think that's one of the reasons why the second half was played the way it was. Her energy and her effort."
On coach's message during halftime
"Stay the course, make shots, defend, and rebound. That's the Big12. Your going to get hit in the mouth and it's how you respond to it. That was one of her really big messages; to respond to the adversity that's in front of us."
Amber Battle
Senior Guard
On her scoring game
"I was just playing my game really. I tried to attack the rime as much as I could. My teammates opened the floor for me so I was able to get to the rime."
On the difference between first half and second half
"I think we just calmed down a little more. Just tried to play our defense and our offense. We didn't rush as much as we did in the first half and I think that helped us."
Sherri Coale
Sooner Head Coach
Opening Statement
"All road wins in the Big12 are really important. I thought our guys came out today with great focus and energy. We're getting better. We're young and we've got a lot of blemishes but we're getting better. I really like coaching this team and really enjoy watching them learn and grow."
On what they did to get off on a good start
"I think it was defensive energy to tell you the truth. We made some shots obviously. Peyton Little just has sort of an uncanny way of finding herself open when she has the ball in her hands. It's sort of A typical but it works, we like it. I thought what separated everything was the defensive intensity. We really sped them up and took the bat of what they want to do and didn't let them have any second shots. That was the difference between the 1st half and the 2nd half. Our defensive rebounds the second half was abysmal."
