TEXAS TECH vs HOUSTON BAPTIST POSTGAME QUOTES
DECEMBER 30, 2014
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
Opening Statement
"A lot of highs and a lot of lows. Not really the consistency we are looking for. I'm happy we could hang on and get the win. I though Jamie Roe made some big plays at the end of game to not give them a chance."
On why Shanice Steenholdt sat out so much during the second half
"I have no idea. I'll take her."
On their fast break
"I think it was the highlight of the game for us. Just seeing us get out and be a little bit better in transition. Rim run, I think Jocelyn did a really great job on coming in and running up the floor and we found her a couple of times. It got us going a little bit."
On what helped them defensively
"Playing harder. Defense is all about effort. Obviously there are a lot of technical things to it that they have been taught. You've got to take pride in guarding."
On Amber's situation at the end of the game
"I think she just rolled her ankle. I think she will be fine."
On heading into Big 12 play
"This team has found a lot of different ways to win games. I think that's probably the thing we take the most. I'm glad that several of them have gotten significant minutes and experience. That's what you want heading into Big 12 play."
Minta Spears
Sophomore Guard
On her missed free throw towards the end
"Those are situations, as a player, I want to be in. I want to be the one to take the pressured free throws. So next time I'll step up and put them in."
On Jamie's play at the end
"Jamie saved us; she made a huge play. It was awesome and gave us the win."
On what the message from coach, during the last time out of the first half
"To come out with more energy, effort, play hard and do the little things right. We started to play defense and got stops. Then we started scoring more. We just need to be more consistent."
Kelsi Baker
Senior Forward
On her performance second half
"My teammates found me in great positions in both halves. I didn't convert in a lot of situations, but we got the win and that's all that's important."
On what got her going offensively after the half
"I thinking coming out of the half, we always want to set the tone. That's one of our goals. Setting the tone was one of our points of emphasis and that's what we did."
