LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech freshman forward Dayo Olabode was honored as the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.
She becomes the first Lady Raider to earn Freshman of the Week since Kierra Mallard won it twice in 2009.
Olabode was once again the force in the paint for Texas Tech on Sunday. The true freshman forward scored her second-highest total of the season with 19 points and nine rebounds in Tech's 50-42 win over Texas-Pan American, nearly tallying her third double-double in eight games.
She is ninth in the Big 12 in rebounding with a 7.0 average. The 6-2 freshman has five games of nine rebounds or more and has led Tech in points three times this season. Olabode is averaging 13 points per game in six home games. The Lady Raiders are 4-0 when she scores in double figures.
Olabode and the Lady Raiders return to the United Supermarkets Arena on Friday to take on Nicholls in the first day of the Athletes in Action Classic at 5:30 p.m.
