LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Robert Turner scored 13 points to lead Texas Tech to a 75-64 win against Northwestern State on Tuesday night.
The Red Raiders (3-1) took control early with a 24-7 run that extended a 6-5 lead with 15:08 left in the first half to 30-12 at the 6:28 mark. Northwestern State trimmed the deficit to nine points, 37-28, at halftime after the Red Raiders committed four turnovers over the final 7:58.
The Demons (2-3) trimmed Texas Tech's lead to four points, 37-33, with 18:40 left in the second half. But the Red Raiders went on a 7-0 run to build a lead that wouldn't be threatened.
They extended their lead to 17 points, 63-46, with 9:29 remaining in the game. The Demons could only trim the deficit to 11 points four times in the second half.
The Red Raiders built such a large lead by shooting 13 of 21 (61.9 percent) from the field and making 9 of 18 free throws in the second half. They shot 14 of 35 (40 percent) in the first half and made 5 of 6 free throws.
Zeek Woodley scored a game-high 27 points, making 11 of 12 field goals, for the Demons. The figure ties his season high, which came against Louisiana State-Alexandria.
The Red Raiders received a balanced offense beyond Turner. Devaugntah Williams scored 11 points, and Randy Onwuasor and Justin Gray added 10 points apiece.
This marks the second time the Red Raiders have had four double-digit scorers. The other came in their season-opening 71-59 win Nov. 14 against Loyola (Md.).
The team's 17 assists were a season high. Onwuasor and Williams had four apiece.
Red Raiders junior Justin Jamison made his career debut when he entered with 6:18 remaining in the first half. Jamison transferred from Missouri State-West Plains after being a 13th-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers. He finished with no points and two rebounds in six minutes.
Texas Tech is home against the Air Force Academy on Sunday afternoon.
