LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech exploded for 31 runs Saturday afternoon as the Red Raiders routed UTEP in a doubleheader sweep at Rocky Johnson Field. Tech opened the day with a 15-2 win in the opener before following up with a 16-2 victory in the finale.
The pair of victories improve the Red Raiders to 4-0 this fall heading into their final home game Tuesday evening against Odessa College. Tech is now outscoring opponents 38-7 so far this fall.
"We're stoked about what I thought was a great day at the ballpark," Tech head coach Adrian Gregory said. "Our kids came out explosive and they brought energy and their best effort. I believe we were rewarded today with production but their push came first and that is what is most important."
Brooke Scott opened a three-run first inning for the Red Raiders as the sophomore drilled the first of her two doubles in the game that scored both Lea Hopson and Kristi Belshe. Hopson had quite the opening game as well, as she became the first of three Red Raiders to homer as part of a nine-run third inning.

The offensive firepower was more than enough for Tech starter Cara Custer, who pitched five strong innings before giving way to Mattison Maisel for the final two innings.
Belshe homered to open Tech's scoring in the finale as the Red Raiders once again used a big third inning to bust the game open - this time scoring five runs in the frame before coming back with eight more in the fourth.
Chandler Moore picked up the win, her first this fall, in an impressive performance that saw the Miners score their only two runs in the seventh inning - long after the game was in hand. Both games were played to a full seven innings.
Tech will close its fall home slate on Tuesday evening as first pitch between the Red Raiders and Odessa College is slated for 6 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
