MIDLAND, Texas - Texas Tech's Raphael Pfister advanced to the semifinals of the men's singles draw at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
Pfister started the day with a tough third round win over Rice's Justin To. After To took the first set 6-4, Pfister answered with a 6-4 second set win, that resulted in a 10-7 super tiebreaker victory to settle the match.
Pfister followed up the win with another three-set victory over Texas' Alex Hilliard in the quarterfinals. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Pfister battled back again, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) for the win.
In other action, Rafael Garcia, dropped his third round match to Maryland's Vlad Stefan, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
"I saw some good things from both (Garcia and Pfister) today," said Siegel "They competed hard and worked today. I think the conditioning has paid off.
"Pfister hasn't played his best tennis yet, but he has found ways to win. I like the way he is battling."
