LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Jordan Tolbert had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Texas Tech to an 87-59 win against Grambling State on Sunday night.
The Red Raiders (5-4) hit five 3-pointers in the first five minutes, including four by walk-on Luke Adams, to build a 17-0 lead.
Adams was playing in his second career game and earned his first career start.
Xavier Rogers had 19 points for the Tigers (0-7), and Peter Roberson added 14 points and 15 rebounds.
The Red Raiders foiled the Grambling State zone defense by hitting outside shots, then working the ball inside to Tolbert and center Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski had 16 points and Adams 15, all on 3-pointers, for Texas Tech.
After trailing 27-2, Grambling State cut the lead to 12 in the waning minutes of the first half. But the Red Raiders scored the final seven points of the half.
It was the largest margin of victory for the Red Raiders since since Texas Tech knocked off South Dakota, 88-49 (39-point victory) on Nov. 13, 2009.
The Red Raiders have now opened the season 4-0 at the United Spirit Arena for the 10th consecutive season.
