FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Gonzalo Escobar lost in the quarterfinals of the consolation draw at the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday.
Escobar, who is ranked 11th nationally, fell to St. John's Vasko Mladenov, 6-2, 7-6(4).
"Gonzalo lost to an opponent who played a very good attacking style," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "Gonzalo had his opportunities to win the second set, but you have to give credit to Mladenov. He played very well.
"All in all, this was a good experience for Gonzalo as we head into the spring."
The No. 21 Red Raiders return to team play on Jan. 20 in Lubbock against Tulane.
