
Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar Gain National Preseason ITA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings were released this afternoon and Texas Tech has placed two singles players and two doubles teams on the national list.
Juniors Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar each gained national singles ranking. Carvalho is ranked 16th while Gonzalo Escobar holds down the No. 24 national spot. Carvalho, ITA All-American, and first-ever Texas Tech player to receive the honor, also earned All-Big 12 singles and doubles recognition last season. The Brazilian player finished the year with a record of 26-11 in singles and 16-11 in doubles (fall and spring combined).
Gonzalo finished the season ranked 39th in the nation in singles and was named All-Big 12 singles. The Ecuadorian native was named second team Academic All-Big 12. He finished the year with a record of 24-8 in singles and 21-10 in doubles (fall and spring combined).
Rafael Garcia joins doubles partner Gonzalo Escobar at the No. 27 national spot. Garcia, a junior from Brazil, earned All-Big 12 singles and doubles honors last season. He finished the year with a record of 14-10 in singles and 16-12 in doubles (fall and spring combined).
The fourth Texas Tech player on the ITA preseason national list is Brazilian player, Vitor Manzini. He competed in the spring season since he arrived in January 2010. Vitor had a 15-7 record in singles and was 16-8 in doubles. Manzini and Raony Carvalho were listed 34th in the national doubles ranking.
The Red Raiders open the 2010-2011 season September 17-19, as they compete in the Midland Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, Texas.
