LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior All-American Chris Ward fired a seven-under 64 to take a three-stroke lead in the opening round of the 101st Texas Amateur Thursday afternoon at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
Fellow senior Red Raider Will Griffin, on the heels of his fourth consecutive Greater San Antonio Amateur title, barely trails Ward as he sits in a tie for second with a three-under 64.
Due to inclement weather, the first round will conclude tomorrow morning with second round action immediately following.
