LUBBOCK, TX - The Texas Tech Red Raiders return to action with a road game at UTEP on Saturday in a 9:00 p.m. (CT) tip with complete coverage provided by CBS College Sports.
Brent Stover will deliver the play-by-play and Steve Lappas will provide the game analysis for CBS College Sports. In the Lubbock area, the game will air on AT&T U-verse (643), DISH Network (152), DirecTV (613), and Suddenlink (512).
The Red Raiders have a 36-14 margin against the Miners in a series that began on January 9, 1931. Last season, Texas Tech won at home, 86-78. UTEP's Derrick Caracter led all players with 21 points. John Roberson was the leading scorer for Texas Tech with 18 points.
UTEP opened their season with a loss at home to Pacific before winning home games over Mercer, Western Carolina, and New Mexico State. In Atlantic City, NJ, the Miners lost to Georgia Tech in the Legends Classic and then stopped Michigan at the same event, 65-56. UTEP won on the road at New Mexico State and returned home with a win on December 12 over Arkansas Pine Bluff, 77-54. The Miners are 6-2 on the season and host the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Wednesday evening before taking on the Red Raiders at the Don Haskins Center on Saturday evening.
After eight games, the Miners have averaged 71.9 points per game and have held their opponents to 64.2 points per outing. UTEP has three players averaging double figures. Randy Culpepper leads his squad with 19.3 points per game. Christian Polk is next with 12.1 points per game. Jeremy Williams follows with 11.3 points per game.
Texas Tech (5-5) is averaging 79.2 points per contest and allowing opponents to post 79.0 points per outing. The Raiders have five players averaging double figures after ten non-conference games. John Roberson leads the squad with 13.3 points per game. Brad Reese follows with 12.8 points per outing. Mike Singletary is next on the squad with 12.7 points per game. Robert Lewandowski is the top rebounder on the squad with 6.3 rebounds per game, and he adds 11.6 points per game. David Tairu drops in 11.0 points per game.
Mark Finkner will call the courtside action against the UTEP Miners along with substitute-analyst Corky Oglesby on the Texas Tech Sports Network flagship radio station Double T 104.3. SIRIUS Radio will provide coverage of the game on Channel 126.
Texas Tech closes out their nonconference season with four home games. On December 22, UT-Arlington is in town for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Red Raiders take on the New Mexico Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on December 29. Texas Tech faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2:00 p.m. on January 2. The Red Raiders host Delaware State on January 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the last nonconference game of the season.
