Texas Tech Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On being disappointed with the slow start
"I really wasn't disappointed in the first eight minutes because I thought we showed great execution. We just missed a lot of easy looks. It showed some maturity, sticking to the game plan as far as offensively execution wise and some poise and shots started to fall. If you would have told me after that start we would have had 40 (points) at the half, I would have disagreed with you, but again it was a lot of poise by us. I was pleased with how we came out and stuck to our guns, as far as what shots we wanted to get and they started to fall."
On the effort from the whole team
"No doubt. I was pleased on both ends of the floor, on the glass and taking care of the basketball. I was very pleased with our entire time and how we responded tonight, and we just have to continue to improve. We need to put this behind us tonight and continue to come back tomorrow and be ready to go."
On what has helped them get so many second chances
"We feel like our athleticism and our size, night in and night out. One of the keys to the game on the board was, if you have offensive responsibility then fill it. I thought we did a nice job of trying to finish inside better tonight off the offensive rebound."
On the team clicking together
"They were. We have to have that all year long, and it's about the double t and getting this group to buy in to being unselfish. If you are off the bench, if you are a starter or whatever you are called upon to do, do it with all your heart and soul. We have some folks whose minutes may go down a little bit this year, but they are more quality over quantity and getting them to buy into that is important."
On Kelsi Baker's performance
"She came in and had that injury and missed the first 19 practices. You know, you have to practice before you can play, and she is really working extremely hard. She is working overtime, as far as trying to get herself back conditioning wise and back to where she wants to be. It is just so good to see. She understands how much she can help her team, and we understand and it starts in practice and then obviously you are starting to see the opportunity for her to practice and get back in the swing of things. So, I still stay on her a little bit about a sense of urgency and getting her hands up on every possession and going to the offensive glass every possession. It is different at this level for any freshman. So, it is all the little things that make a big difference, and I think she is starting to see that. There is somebody that is matched up with you that is pretty good now, so you have to work and rework and have energy. She just did a great job tonight."
Forward Kelsi Baker
On getting a feel for the game
"I was feeling good. I think once I got in I kind of felt the pace of the game, so being able to feel the pace of the game it felt better than just going out there and feeling like what is going on and what is happening. I felt more in control than any other game."
On feeling comfortable with her team
"I felt more comfortable with the plays and with my teammates, and I know them more now. At first I didn't really know how they were going to play with me. They didn't know how I was going to play with them, so now I am just more comfortable with my teammates."
On coming back from an injury
"I feel that I am pretty close to 100 percent. I'm going to continue working and just working. So, that is all that I can hope for. I'm just trying to get back to the best of my ability."
On the team clicking together
"It felt like everything was clicking tonight. Everybody was going to the boards, and everybody knew where we were going to be and that sense of camaraderie was there tonight. I think that is good going into this game against Penn State. We needed that win."
