LUBBOCK, TX - Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar lost the first set in the second round of the ITA singles consolation bracket and then bounced back to win the next two sets and earn the match win over the No. 25 singles player nationally and Michigan's team captain, Jason Jung, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
"I'm really pleased with how Gonzalo held his composure after the loss in the first set and was able to come back against a top player and win the match," noted coach Tim Siegel.
Escobar is the No. 24 ranked player nationally, according to the recently released 2010 Campbell/ITA Preseason Singles Rankings. His quarterfinals consolation match on Saturday will pit him against Jamere Jenkins of Virginia. The Cavalier was ranked as high as No. 16 nationally in singles last season.
The tournament, hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, kicked off on Saturday, October 3, with six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying singles and doubles leading up to the main draw competition.
