LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman midfielder Mallory Yacullo was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer for her performance against Nebraska on Oct. 3.
Last weekend, Yacullo started both matches against Colorado and Nebraska. Against the Huskers, the Parker, Colo., native played all 92 minutes as she scored the tying goal as time expired, sending the game into overtime. With under 10 seconds to go, junior Madison Terry served a driven ball to the back post and junior Casey McCall challenged hard for the cross and got enough on it to get to the far post where Yacullo came flying in to hammer home the tying goal to send the game into overtime.
"I was not surprised at all to see Mallory score such a dramatic clutch goal," said head coach Tom Stone. "She is a fierce competitor and plays with a fearlessness that is contagious. A lot of players would have tightened up with the ball coming at them as the PA announcer was saying "one" (as in one second left in the game), but Mallory just stayed focused and let it fly. It was a great goal and well deserved."
Yacullo was joined by 14 other players who were recognized as Primetime Performers - Courtney Seelhorst (Baylor), Kelly Reinwald (Canisius), Jenna Hill (Central Michigan), Kelsey Wys (Florida State), Shawna Gordon (Long Beach State), Morgan Marlborough (Nebraska), Michelle Manning (Pepperdine), Hope Ward (Rice), Taylor Housley (San Diego), Rachel Quon (Stanford), Alyssa Welsh (Stetson), Meghan Lenczyk (Virginia), Megan Mischler (West Virginia) and Cate Sessions (Wisconsin). Wys was named the Primetime Player of the Week.
Selection for the CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria, not solely based on raw stats: in general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent and the situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments; must have been playing in a game involving a top 50 team from the CS360 composite national rankings (or a preseason conference favorite), or performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification; involved in clutch performances, such as game-winning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, team leadership, etc.; overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual); bonus consideration is given for key performances away from the team's home field.
