
Red Raider Doubles Unable to Advance at ITA

LUBBOCK, TX - Texas Tech's two doubles entries at the ITA/D'Novo Men's All-American Championships were unable to advance in Qualifying Doubles after falling in their opening matches on Tuesday.
Red Raiders Raony Carvalho and Vitor Manzini played their afternoon match against Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee. The Raiders had four break points at 6-7 but were unable to capitalize and fell, 8-6.
In the second Tech doubles match of the afternoon, Gonzalo Escobar and Rafael Garcia faced the tandem from San Diego, Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann. San Diego's duo won, 8-6.
Texas Tech still has two players in Main Draw singles. For the first time in school history, two Red Raiders, Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar, have earned entry to the Main Draw singles. Raony Carvalho is the No. 16 ranked player in the country and teammate Gonzalo Escobar is the No. 24 ranked player nationally, according to the recently released 2010 Campbell/ITA Preseason Singles Rankings. Their Main Draw singles matches will begin on October 7.
The University of Tulsa hosts the tournament for the fourth-straight year and for the sixth year overall. The event takes place at Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
