LUBBOCK, TX - Just as he did in his two matches on Saturday, Vitor Manzini won both matches on Sunday and has advanced to Qualifying Singles at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships in Tulsa.
In his first match on Sunday, Manzini defeated Air Force's Lucas Marin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
The Red Raider from Brazil had to win his next match to earn a place in Qualifying Singles. It took three sets, but he earned a hard-fought victory over Purdue's Mark Kovacs, 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.
"It was an amazing effort from Vitor to be able to come through two tough days of competition as he did, especially after being down 4-2 in the third set of his second match, " stated assistant coach Marcelo Ferreira. "He improved in every match, and he did a very good job playing aggressively and staying focused the entire time in the last round."
Vitor will be joined by Rafael Garcia, Texas Tech's second entry in Qualifying Singles. Their first round of singles qualifying matches will begin on Monday. In qualifying singles, players must win three rounds to advance to Main Draw.
The University of Tulsa hosts the tournament for the fourth-straight year and for the sixth year overall. The event takes place at Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
