
Four Red Raiders in Premier ITA Fall Event

LUBBOCK, TX - Texas Tech's four nationally ranked men's tennis players travel to Tulsa for the 2010 D'Novo/ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships, which will open October 2 and run through October 10. The tournament will include six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying matches beginning October 2 for both singles and doubles.
For the first time in school history, two Red Raiders, Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar, have earned entry to the Main Draw singles. Raony Carvalho is the No. 16-ranked player in the country and teammate Gonzalo Escobar is the No. 24-ranked player nationally, according to the recently released 2010 Campbell/ITA Preseason Singles Rankings. Their Main Draw singles matches will begin on October 7.
"This is one of the toughest tournaments in college tennis," Carvalho declared. "I'm excited to be in the Main Draw and to have three teammates playing in the tournament."
Rafael Garcia and Vitor Manzini are also set to compete in singles play. Manzini begins prequalifying singles play on Saturday with Garcia playing Monday in the qualifying singles.
Escobar and Garcia, the No. 27-ranked doubles team in the nation, and Carvalho and Manzini, the No. 34-ranked doubles team in the nation, begin doubles play on Tuesday in the qualifying rounds.
The University of Tulsa will be hosting the tournament for the fourth-straight year and for the sixth year overall. The event will take place at Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
