
Carvalho Ranked 25th in Preseason ITA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings were released today and Texas Tech sophomore Raony Carvalho is ranked 25th in singles, while Carvalho and sophomore newcomer Rafael Garcia are No. 28 in the doubles rankings.
Carvalho wrapped up his freshman year ranked 44th in singles and was ranked 13th with Christian Rojmar in doubles. Carvalho, who was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, finished the year with a 26-14 singles record, including 14-9 in dual action in the spring, and was named All-Big 12 in both singles and doubles. He also qualified for both singles and doubles in the NCAA Championships.
Carvalho has been selected to play in the main draw of the 2009 D'Novo ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 5-11. Carvalho and Garcia will also compete in the qualifying doubles portion of the championships in hopes of advancing to the main draw.
Carvalho and Garcia are two of Tech's four players from Brazil who grace this year's roster. The Red Raiders open the season Sept. 18-20, as they compete in the Midland Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, Texas.
