LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's 2010 Softball team will host several home scrimmages during its fall season, which begins later in September.
"I'm a big fan of scrimmaging, it gives everyone a chance to compete and if you're a student-athlete or a coach, that's what you want to be doing, competing," first-year head coach Shanon Hays said in announcing the slate of games.
During the off-season, teams may practice a limited number of hours each week and are only allowed to compete for a set number of games. For Tech, which for the past few years traveled during the fall to a tournament event in the Houston area, it will be a chance to get a feel for its home field and each other.
As tryouts are continuing in what are known as individual sessions, the roster has not yet been announced, but there will be several newcomers for fans to get to know. (We will update this Web site next week with a fall "reporting day" roster, thanks for your patience.)
Dates for the fall scrimmages are as follows:
Oct. 3 - TTU vs. Temple, 10 a.m.
Oct. 3 - TTU vs. West Texas A&M, Noon
Oct. 6 - TTU vs. Midland College, 3 p.m.
Oct. 6 - TTU vs. Lubbock Christian, 5 p.m.
Oct. 19 - TTU vs. Odessa, 1:30 p.m.
Oct. 24 - TTU vs. Western Texas, 10 a.m.
Oct. 24 - TTU vs. Navarro, 1 p.m.
Oct. 27 - TTU vs. Howard, 2 p.m.
All fall scrimmages will be held in Lubbock at Rocky Johnson Field. While the new construction of the field house at softball won't be completed, the schedule will allow fans the opportunity to marvel at how well construction is moving along.
