Tech Closes Out Regular Season with Loss to Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. - Texas Tech softball closed out the 2009 regular season Sunday afternoon with an, 8-0, loss to the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State. With the loss, the Red Raiders finish the season with an overall record of 15-41, and 3-15 in Big 12 play.
Texas Tech (15-41/3-15) jumped all over Cowgirl pitcher Anna Whiddon early, starting the game with two consecutive singles from Stephanie Drewry and Leah Legler. With two on, Tech was unable to plate a runner as Oklahoma State (33-19/8-10) recorded three straight outs.
The Cowgirls were able to pick up three runs in the bottom of frame on a leadoff single from Mariah Gearhart, followed by a double by Katelyn Bright. With two outs, Megan Castle drew a walk and a double from Julie Ward scored two to give Oklahoma State the lead, 3-0.
OSU plated five more runs in the second on a leadoff walk by Chelsea Garcia, followed by a fielder's choice by Kelsey Anchors to place two on with no outs. Mariah Gearhart then hit a three-run home run to up the advantage for the Cowgirls to, 5-0. Two walks, a double, and a single allowed Oklahoma State to plate three more runners giving them the, 8-0, lead.
Tech was unable to rally in the fourth and fifth, giving Oklahoma State the victory, 8-0, after four and a half innings of play.
Drewry went 2-2 on the day, while Legler also contributed a hit. Alex Watkins lasted just one and two thirds innings in the circle, before turning the game over to Karli Merlich.
