LUBBOCK, Texas - The draw for the singles and doubles portions of the 2009 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships was announced Tuesday with Texas Tech's Raony Carvalho set to face Clint Bowles of Florida State at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
In doubles, Carvalho and teammate Christian Rojmar will face Diego Cubas and Ivan Machado of South Carolina at a time to be determined Thursday.
Bowles enters the opening match ranked No. 58 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after posting a 16-12 duals record in the No. 2 position, helping lead the Seminoles to an eventual NCAA Round of 16 loss to top-ranked Virginia.
The duo of Cubas and Machado went 13-10 overall this spring for the Gamecocks as USC advanced to the NCAA Championships before bowing out in a first round loss to North Carolina. The duo is the 24th-ranked tandem in the country.
Carvalho is currently ranked 41st in the country after going 14-9 this spring playing primarily the top singles position. He and Rojmar went 14-8 in duals, ending the regular season ranked No. 15 nationally. Rojmar is making his third career appearance in the doubles championship as the senior previously teamed with former Red Raider standout Bojan Szumanski.
The singles and doubles portions of the championships begin Wednesday and end Mon., May 25. The singles draw consists of the nation's top 64 players, while the doubles bracket includes the top 32 tandems.
