Red Raiders Run Win Streak to Seven

Lubbock, Texas - After spotting Samford seven points in the opening two minutes, the Red Raiders closed out the Bulldogs to earn their seventh win of the 2009-2010 season, 74-53.
Texas Tech's first points came on two free throws by Theron Jenkins followed by nine consecutive Red Raider points as they grabbed a four-point lead with 15:53 on the clock, 11-7. The lead changed three times in the first half with Texas Tech holding a 36-28 margin when the period ended.
The Red Raiders never gave up the lead in the second half. The Bulldogs managed to stay close and were down six points with 11:52 on the clock but never got get any closer. Texas Tech's solid defense and rebounding advantage allowed them to extend their lead to 23 points with less than two minutes to play.
Samford's Josh Davis led all scorers with 26 points. The Lubbock native was the only Bulldog to reach double figures.
Coach Pat Knight's Red Raiders were led by John Roberson's 16 points. David Tairu added 15 points, Nick Okorie dropped in 14 points, and Mike Singletary added 11 points.
Texas Tech's seven-game win streak is the best start the Red Raiders have had since becoming members of the Big 12 Conference in the 1996-1997 season. The 1995-1996 squad opened with seven wins in their final season in the Southwest Conference.
The Red Raiders host the No.14 Washington Huskies of the Pac-10 on Thursday, December 3. The game at the United Spirit Arena will begin at 6 PM with coverage provided by ESPN2.
