LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will be wrapping up its fall tournament play as it sends nine players to the ITA Regionals in College Station, Texas, Oct. 24-27.
The regionals will be held at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Headlining Tech's tournament roster is No. 25 Raony Carvalho. The sophomore is currently 2-1 in singles after competing in the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month. While at the ITA All-American Championships, Carvalho got the biggest win of his collegiate career by upsetting the 13th-ranked player in the country in the round of 32.
Along with Carvalho, junior David Gonzalez, sophomores Gonzalo Escobar and Rafael Garcia, and freshmen Raphael Pfister, Andre Stabile, Jeff Bryan, Jared Hope and Zach Jiganti will all compete in the regionals.
Heading into the regionals, Escobar posts a 3-1 singles record after advancing to the quarterfinals of the Baylor Intercollegiate. Escobar also made it to the finals of the doubles draw of the Baylor Intercollegiate with Stabile as the duo has a 4-1 record. Pfister is the only Red Raider to play in two tournaments (The Racquet Club Collegiate and Baylor Intercollegiate) this fall with a 6-3 mark in singles action. This will be the first tournament for Jiganti, while Gonzalez, Bryan and Hope all competed in the The Racquet Club Collegiate. Garcia played in the Baylor Intercollegiate along with Escobar, Stabile and Pfister.
