Tech Men Lead the Pack at Shoal Creek

LUBBOCK, Texas - After two rounds of play Monday, the No. 22 Texas Tech men's golf team is in first place at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
The Red Raiders fired a plus-two 578 through the first 36 holes to help put themselves in front at the prestigious Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club. Host Alabama Birmingham is five strokes behind in second place. No. 21 Auburn is seven strokes back in third place, while Oklahoma is ten shots back in fourth going into Tuesday's final round.
Tech started off the day with a 293 to put itself in third place after 18 holes. Led by freshman Sergio Franky's four-under 68, which tied for the best individual round of the day, the Red Raiders fired a sizzling three-under par 285 over the second round to take over the lead.
Three Tech players currently sit in the top 10 individually. Sophomore Will Griffin is tied for third, just two strokes behind the leader, after firing a one-under 143 Monday to lead Tech. Junior Santiago Rivas and Franky each shot an even-par 144 to tie for eighth place, with Matt Smith, five-over 149, and Garrett Merrell, eight-over 152, rounding off the Red Raiders' performers.
