LUBBOCK, Texas - Even with Tina Rincon's second shutout of the season, the Texas Tech soccer team could not muster enough offense to break a 0-0 tie with SMU Sunday. The Red Raiders are now 2-3-1 on the season.
For the first time since the Georgia match, the Red Raiders were out-shot by the Mustangs 13 to nine. Tech out-numbered SMU in corner kicks four to three.
The Red Raiders had their opportunities in the second overtime with three shots to the Mustangs' none. Zhaleh Rezaie and Priscilla Esquivel led the Red Raiders with two shots each.
Tech broke its five-game losing streak against the Mustangs and now stands 0-5-1 all-time. Of the 643 fans in attendance, many wore scarlet and black to the thrill of Tech head coach Tom Stone.
"I thought our girls did remarkably well in the second half and overtime in a game we really needed a result in," Stone said. "We would have loved to have won it, but I was extremely proud of the effort. I could tell our team was not going to let this game get away from us. We fought them tooth and nail and pushed the pace to the end."
The Red Raiders return to R.P. Fuller Stadium Sun., Sept. 23, against Jackson State at 1 p.m. Conference play kicks off Sept. 28, at Colorado.
