LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team will tee off its 2007 fall season Friday through Sunday Sept. 14-16 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in Rocky Face, Geo. It will be the first of five fall tournaments for the Red Raiders.
The two-day competition, which includes three rounds and 54 holes, will open Friday afternoon and conclude Sunday afternoon.
The Classic looks to be perhaps the toughest tournament in the country this weekend, with 12 of the top 30 ranked teams in the nation competing. Tech, currently ranked No. 22 preseason, is the only team from the Big 12 competing at the event.
Red Raiders Coach Greg Sands returns for his seventh season at the helm of Tech this year. Sands returns five letterwinners to this season's squad, including three of his top placers from last year in Will Griffin, Santiago Rivas and Matt Smith. Joining the team this season is three talented freshmen, Nils Floren, Sergio Franky and Brian Scherer.
After this weekend, Tech will return to Lubbock in preparation for the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala. Sept. 24-25.
