LUBBOCK, Texas - Representing Texas Tech at the NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, Ga., Red Raiders Bojan Szumanski and Christian Rojmar put the cap on the 2007 season suffering a first-round loss in doubles competition.
The No. 33 duo of Szumanski and Rojmar received a stiff draw into the doubles competition facing Miami's No. 5-ranked pair of Josh Cohen and Luigi D'Agord. Unlike the regular season play, the doubles match was scored the best of three sets.
The two teams went head-to-head in the first set with Miami coming ahead in the tiebreaker and getting the 7-6 win. Tech was unable to stall the Hurricanes as they took the second set 6-1, advancing them to the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championships.
Szumanski and Rojmar finished the season 9-9 playing at No. 1 for the Raiders. The two received All-Big 12 honors in doubles finishing up conference play with a 3-3 record.
In singles earlier in the day, Szumanski dropped his second round match to LSU's No. 24-ranked Ken Skupski. Szumanski began play strong in the first set before Skupski moved in and took the 6-4 win. In the second set, Szumanski struggled to find some breathing room as Skupski was able to come ahead with the 6-3 win, advancing him to the next round of play.
No. 37 Szumanski wrapped up his junior season with a 22-14 overall record, 10-11 in dual competition. This season he was named to the All-Big 12 singles and doubles first-teams, as well as receiving Academic All-Big 12 first team and Academic All-District VI honors.
