AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Carla Cortijo had 13 assists and Earnesia Williams had 17 points to lead Texas to a 59-47 victory over Texas Tech Saturday.
Tiffany Jackson, Texas leading scorer and one of two Longhorns seniors, played only nine minutes in the first due to foul trouble, but still managed 10 points in her final game at the Frank Erwin Center.
Patrice Edwards led Texas Tech (15-14, 6-9) with 10 points, but the Lady Raiders became Texas first win in six games largely because of their 33 percent shooting effort.
Texas Tech started the game 3-of-16 from the floor, which allowed Texas (17-12, 6-9) to build an early nine point lead. Cortijo had eight first half assists and Williams had 13 points as Texas took a 31-22 lead into the half.
Jackson led Texas with eight points in the second and the Longhorns played nearly the entire half with a double-digit lead. Brittainey Raven had 12 points for Texas, who scored 34 points in the paint.
