LUBBOCK, Texas - After claiming its third team title of the fall last week, the Texas Tech men's golf team is now ranked No. 15 nationally in the latest polls released by Golfweek this past weekend.
The Red Raiders are one of just two Big 12 schools ranked in the Top 25. No. 6 Oklahoma State is the only other conference team ranked higher than Tech.
Starting the season ranked No. 22, the Red Raiders have moved up throughout the fall. At one point they ranked as high No. 11 and also saw time at No. 17 one week. Tech has received its share of honors in this time as well. The Red Raiders were named the College Men's Team of the week by Golfweek for the week of Sept. 31 to Oct. 7, while sophomore Will Griffin was tabbed as the Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month for September. He was also recognized as the College Men's Player of the Week by Golf World in early October.
Tech wrapped up its fall season with three team titles, picking up wins at the Shoal Creek and Herb Wimberly Intercollegiates and sharing the title at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate. The Red Raiders shot two rounds of 274 at the Herb Wimberly to tie the third-lowest round scores in school history. Two Tech golfers won individual medals during the fall, with Griffin winning at Shoal Creek and freshman Sergio Franky taking top honors at Herb Wimberly.
Coach Greg Sands' squad will be off the rest of the fall, before teeing off its spring season at the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawai'i Feb. 7-9.
