LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite out-shooting their opponent for the second consecutive game, the Texas Tech soccer team could not convert enough of its scoring opportunities dropping to Kansas, 4-1, Sunday at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
For the first time since playing Colorado last season in Boulder, the Red Raiders allowed three first half goals giving Kansas a 3-0 advantage at the half.
Nicole Cauzillo scored the Jayhawks' first goal in the 25th minute, with Shannon McCabe and Jessica Bush both getting assists on the play.
Kim Boyer would score her first of two first-half goals six minutes later in the 32nd minute off a Cauzillo pass. Boyer's second goal was unassisted in the 39th minute.
Following halftime, the Red Raiders would strike first with a Karen De Leon goal off a Katie Hinds assist in the 82nd minute.
It was not enough to mount a rally, however, as the Jayhawks' Kaitlyn Cunningham would fire to the top-right corner of the net a minute later.
"We are getting plenty of shots, but we are just not capitalizing on them," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "I thought we had played solid the past five games, but today was not the case. We need to rebound and get ready for next weekend."
Sophomore defender Sarabeth Clopton posted a career-high five shots in the loss. The Red Raiders' 25 total shots are the most since the 35 attempted against Texas-San Antonio early this season.
Tech attempted 12 corner kicks in the game, with 11 coming in the second half alone. Kansas was limited to four corners and just 11 shots.
The Red Raiders resume conference play next weekend as they host Iowa State Fri., Oct. 12 and Nebraska on Sun., Oct. 14. For tickets, call (806) 742-TECH or visit texastech.com.
