
Breler and Markovic Advance to Semi-Finals

LUBBOCK, Texas - After rain postponed play most of the morning, Texas Tech men's tennis' players overcame the odds to advance to the semi-finals of the 2007 ITA South Central Regionals. The final day of competition begins tomorrow, Oct. 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the Pennick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
Competing in the consolation bracket, Ilya Babinciuc and Michael Breler were only Red Raiders left in singles play. Babinciuc continued to work his way through the bracket winning 6-2, 6-1, over Andy Narido from Prairie View-A&M, and 7-5, 6-3, 1-0, against Texas A&M's Kayvon Karimi. Next he will go up against Matt Bain from A&M in the semi-finals. Breler also won his first match, defeating Gonzalo Bienzobas from Texas-Arlington 6-1, 6-2, but came up short against Baylor's Attila Bucko falling 6-2, 6-3.
The junior duo of Breler and Sinisa Markovic played the final match of the evening, rolling passed the No. 5 seed Bucko and Dominik Mueller of Baylor, 8-3. The pair will face the third seed team of Ralph Knupfer and Christoph Muller from Rice at 9:30 a.m.
