
Red Raider Duo Wins Big in Austin

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite dropping two matches in the main singles draw of the ITA South Central Regionals, the Texas Tech men's tennis team had an impressive showing in doubles competition. The duo of Michael Breler and Sinisa Markovic found a big win over the No-4 nationally-ranked team from Texas.
Breler and Markovic went toe-to-toe with the top-seed Longhorn duo of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala. With the lead volleying back and forth, the Red Raiders were able to overcome the home-court advantage, walking away with the 9-8 tiebreaker victory. Next up, the two will face yet another set of tough competitors in the No. 5 seed from Baylor, Attila Bucko and Dominik Mueller at 1:30 p.m.
In the main singles draw, the top seed Bojan Szumanski moved passed UTSA's Robin Fernandes, 6-2, 6-4, but fell short against Christoph Mueller of Rice, losing 6-3, 6-3. Markovic found a win early in the day over Chong Wang of Rice, 6-1, 6-3, but also lost his second match to Kriegler Brink of TCU, 7-6, 6-4.
In consolation singles, Breler bounced backed from a second round main draw loss by taking down Brett Bernstein (UTPA), 6-4, 6-2, and Nicolas Bateman (PVAM), 6-2, 6-3. He will face Gonzalo Bienzobas of Texas-Arlington, tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Ilya Babinciuc also found redemption in the consolation beating Dennis Polyakov (Rice), 7-5, 6-4, and teammate Christian Rojmar, 6-3, 7-6. Next, he will see Prairie View's Andy Narido also at 8:30 a.m.
